Cosmetic Orthopaedic Surgery

Cosmetic orthopedic surgery specializes in medical issues affecting the musculoskeletal system. This includes treating spinal problems, replacing joints and treating trauma patients. The procedures include amputating limbs, inserting pins and setting broken bones.

What are the general types of cosmetic orthopedic surgery and procedures?

• Limb lengthening: It is a process which achieves results using, the body’s own capacity to create new bone, ligaments, soft tissues, nerves that surrounds. The process is a surgical procedure called osteotomy, in which the surgeon cuts the bone to lengthen it. The limb is then stabilized using different internal or external fixation devices or frames.
• Intramedullary Skeletal Kinetic Distractor (ISKD Nails): It is one of the most suitable procedure for nail lengthening. It can be used in the tibia or the femur, as it has limited capacity to correction of other deformities. Once the bone has been reamed to allow the passage of nail, the nail will be inserted into the tibia or femur and will cut the bone surgically to allow lengthening. The bone will lengthen by the nail and the rate of lengthening will be monitored regularly by the surgeon.
• Internal Lengthening Device: It is an expandable rod that will be placed inside the bone. There will be magnetic gear inside the rod and it can be controlled with a hand held remote controller which goes on top of the skin. Another magnetic will be used to lengthen the internal device. PRECICE® is the internal lengthening device which is used by most of the surgeons.
